Old Pune City is famous for it's several "Peth" areas. these includes : - - Somwar Peth- Mangalwar Peth - Guruwar Peth - Shukrawar Peth - Shaniwar peth - Ravivar Peth - Rasta Peth - Navi Peth - Sadashiv Peth - Narayan Peth etc.

People stayed around the present Mahatama Phule Mandai and Shaniwar Wada. But as the population started to increase, the boundaries of Pune started expanding. The Eastern Pune or the portion on the other side of the river is known as the old Pune.

Recently developed areas are Deccan Gymkhana, Kothrudh, Karve Nagar and Pashan. The first Peth founded was Kasba Peth. Bhawani Peth Bhavani Peth is located in the heart of the city followed by all other peths.

The place can be accessed through Sanas Road as well as Bhawani Peth Road. Peth is a general name for old locality in Pune.

Business in these places used to take place once in a week. There are 18 Peths in all, created by Peshwas in 1713 and 1818. Bhawani Peth has been named after Hindu Goddess Bhavai whose temple was set up here in 1763.

Narayan Peth Narayan Peth, bulid by Narayanrao Pehwa houses the office of Daily News Paper 'Kesari' and is located in the heart of the Pune city. Lokmanya Tilak, great freedom fighter started 'Kesari' from Narayan Peth's Gaikwad Wada. This is the reason why this place is now better known as 'Gaikwad Wada' or 'Kesari Wada'.

Recently renovation of the Wada has been done where you can see the big Library and exhibition of the objects used by Lokmanya. Now a days you can find a big stationary, printing and Paper market in 'Narayan Peth'.

Sambhaji Bridge or Lakadi pool (bridge) and Kesari Office are some famous places which are some of the famous places.
